The Samuels lab is very happy to announce that
Sam Livingston defended his his PhD thesis successfully today. We congratulate him on his success and the advances he has made to the study of cannabis trichome development and structure. Sam used a wide variety of techniques including immuno fluorescence microscopy, high-pressure-freezing based cryofixation, immuno-TEM microscopy and multiphoton microscopy to study the cannabis trichomes. Sam has been able to describe the subcellular organization of organelles in the secretory cells with previously unattainable detail and quality of preservation. Sam has also made important discoveries in the makeup and development of the cell walls that ultimately hold the important metabolites such as THCA, CBDA and terpenes within the trichomes.
