We are happy to announce that Jan Xue successfully defended her Master's thesis late last year. Jan studied the red algae Calliarthron. Jan's work delves into the evolutionary relationship between cellulose synthase enzymes in Calliarthron and land plants. In addition to the bioinformatic and computational work Jan also expressed and characterized algal cellulose synthase genes while visiting the Zimmer lab at the University of Virginia.
We have the privilege of continuing to work with Jan in the lab since she will be continuing on in the Samuels lab as a PhD student.
