Summer Re-Cap

The Samuels lab had an eventful summer, and looks like it will only continue into the fall!

Conference Attendance

Yoshi, Miranda, Michelle, and Lacey went the 2015 Gordon Conference on Plant Cell Walls, where Miranda helped organize the Gordon Research Seminar which preceded the conference. Also, congratulations to Miranda and Yoshi, whose posters won two of the four Outstanding Poster Awards!

Eva and Mathias attended the Botany 2015 conference in Edmonton.

At Botany 2015, Teagen received the Canadian Botanical Association Taylor A. Steeves Award for best published paper in plant development by a student at a Canadian university (you can find the paper here), as well as an honourable mention for the Ragai Ibrahim Award competition for this paper. Congratulations Teagen!

Teagen also met up with former lab member Rebecca at the 2015 Gordon Conference on Plant Metabolic Engineering.

Lab Events

After three months, we said goodbye to our visiting graduate student Silvia López González, at a picnic at Jericho Beach (above).

New Faces

Coming back for a directed studies project is former summer NSERC-USRA and undergrad volunteer, Vicky Wang.

Also joining us this fall is Masters student Sam Livingston, who spent the summer working next door in the Wasteneys lab.

Former Samuels Lab post doc, Dr. David Bird, is visiting us from Mount Royal University, and Dr. Richard Sibout, joins us from the Institut Jean-Pierre Bourgin (IJPB).
